The historic retail store that was picked is located at the intersection of Live Oak St and Liberty St in Dallas. The historic retail building was already existing on the site but the interior of the building was thought to turn into a gallery.
The inspiration for this project was some of Kandinsky’s abstract work. In his paintings, Kandinsky uses basic shapes, circles and different kinds of lines and curves. His paintings are dynamic and rhythmic. The gallery’s layout is simple and the focal point of the plan is the simple curvy wall. There are also secondary elements in the plan that respond to the main curvy wall. Plan is fairly simple and works with the preservation of the historic building. In the gallery, some of Kandinsky’s famous paintings are being showcased. People can circulate in the gallery by just following the motion of the wall and feel the relationship it has with the paintings. This continuous gallery can be divided into two smaller galleries with a curtain.
